Teacher: Today we’ll speak about our home town – Saratov. It is our best city, because we live here. Saratov is a big industrial, cultural and educational centre. Saratov is one of the oldest towns in the Volga Region. Saratov is the capital of the Volga region.

But first of all I want to know what do you know about our native town?

Учитель: Now imagine that you are at the lesson of geography in one of English school. I want you to know more interesting facts in history, geography, population of our town. And I want to begin with the geographical position of our town. Who wants to tell me about the geographical position of Saratov?

Ученик рассказывает о географическом положении Саратова:The total area of Saratov is about 100 square kilometers. Saratov region is situated in the European part of our country. It is situated on Volga River. Saratov is our native town. Saratov is the capital of the Volga region. It is situated in 858 kilometers from Moscow, on the right shore of the Volga River. Saratov is situated in the hollow and is surrounded by not very high hills: Altynaya, Bald hill and Sokolovaya hill. Due to its advantageous geographical position Saratov became one of the main trade ways for many towns of our country.

The population of Saratov is about 858 thousand people. There live a lot of nationalities. The basis nationality is Russian. Saratov is an international city. There also live such nationalities as Ukrainian, Uzbek, Tatar, Mordovian, Kazakh, German, Armenian, Azerbaijanian, and Byelorussian.

Saratov is a cultural centre. There are many theatres, museums, institutes, libraries and cinemas, a very good Circus by brothers Nikitines. The Radischev Art Gallery, which became the first museum in Russia. There are a great collection of painting and sculptures there. There are 4 theatres: the Drama Theatre, the Opera and Ballet House, the Theatre for young Spectators and Puppet Show for children. Saratov is the “town of students. Students from different towns and countries study here. There are about 16 institutes, the oldest is Saratov State University (1909),the Technical University, the Academy of Law, the Academy of Economics, the Agricultural University, the Medical University , the Conservatory was formed by Sobinov L.V. in 1912. It is one of the symbols of our city.

My native town is Saratov.

I am happy to greet you with my native town Saratov.

Saratov is a big industrial, cultural and educational centre. Its population is about 1 million people.

Saratov is one of the oldest towns in the Volga Region. Saratov is the capital of the Volga region.

It was founded in 1590 as a fortress on the boarders of Russia. In the 18th century Saratov became a very rich town. It exported salt, fish, grain, cattle and leather to many regions of the country.

The origin of its name is Tartar. It means “A yellow or a beautiful hill.”

Saratov was famous for its rich fishery.

That’s why the coat of arms of Saratov presents a shield with 3 sterlets on a blue field.

The most beautiful places in Saratov are the Embankment, the bridge across the Volga, Lipki Park and Kirov prospect.

Saratov is a cultural centre. There are many theatres, museums, institutes, libraries and cinemas in Saratov, they are: a very good Circus, the Radischev Art Gallery, which became the first museum in Russia. There are 4 theatres: the Drama Theatre, the Opera and Ballet House, the Theatre for young Spectators and Puppet Show for children.

I want to tell you about my beautiful, rather big, city called Saratov. There is an exciting history which goes back 479 years. Our town was visited by a lot of famous people including Pushkin and even Peter the First, the Great Russian Tsar.

Nowadays, Saratov is a big, industrial city, with a population of about one million people. But there are also many monuments and interesting places in Saratov, such as Theatre Square, the Radishchev Museum, and many others. I enjoy walking on Kirova Avenue or in Liphi City Garden. There are many picturesque buildings in these places.

Saratov is a center for opera and drama. In spite of the fact that I am crazy about theatre, I visit them rather seldom because the tickets to performances are too expensive for me.

I am proud of my city and believe that Saratov will become one of the most popular cities in Europe in the next ten years.

Я хочу рассказать Вам о моем красивом, действительно большом городе под названием Саратов. Это город с захватывающей историей, которая началась 479 лет назад. Наш город посещали такие известные люди как Пушкин и даже сам Пётр Первый — великий русский царь.

В настоящее время Саратов — большой, индустриальный город, с населением около одного миллиона человек. Здесь есть много памятников и интересных для посещения мест, таких как Театральная площадь, музей Радищева и другие. Я люблю гулять по проспекту Кирова или в Городском парке Липки. В этих местах есть много живописных зданий.

Саратов — центр оперы и драмы. Несмотря на то, что я обожаю театр, я посещаю его скорее редко, потому что билеты на спектакли слишком дороги для меня.
